After sharing my experience as a young dad with the YOYO stroller and the car trunk, I also feel it’s important to discuss the Yoyo bassinet and the car.
I often get asked questions like:
Can you secure the Yoyo bassinet in the car? Does it replace a baby car seat ? Does it take up space in the car ? What about the trunk ?
I’m here to answer all your questions.
Oh, and for those of you discovering me directly on this page from Google, I have two Yoyos and a 2-year-old child who has the 6+ pack and a bucket car seat, and a 2-month-old who has a car seat and his bassinet on the Yoyo.
If you’re wondering what a bassinet is, I explain it in detail in another section of my website about the purpose of the Yoyo bassinet.
So, let’s tackle the first question.
Is there a fixture to attach the Yoyo bassinet in the car ?
The answer is NO !
There are no accessories available to make the Yoyo bassinet compatible with a seatbelt in your car.
Even if you find an adapter for the Yoyo bassinet on a “questionable” platform, I strongly advise against following the brand’s recommendations or my own experience.
Under no circumstances should you drive with your child in the Yoyo bassinet.
Even if you do, I can guarantee you won’t feel at ease during the journey.
Drive legally, Drive Zen, and above all, protect your child.
What are the risks if I use the Yoyo bassinet instead of a car seat in the car ?
The first risk is being fined for “Non-installation of a child under 10 years old in a regulated car seat,” with a fixed penalty of € and up to 3 penalty points on your driving license. The second risk is much more serious: severe injuries in the event of an accident with your vehicle. Indeed, a child in a bassinet does not benefit from maximum protection that an approved car seat can provide.
So, to the question, is the Yoyo bassinet approved for the car? The answer is a big no.
To use the car with your child, you must choose an approved seat according to the regulations:
- A shell seat for infants
- A bucket seat for smaller children
- A seat with a backrest for older children
Where to put the Yoyo bassinet in the car ?
As we discussed earlier, the Yoyo bassinet cannot be used as a car seat in your car. You will inevitably have to use an approved car seat like the one sold by the Babyzen brand.
But where should you store the Yoyo bassinet in the car?
You have options, based on my experience:
- In the trunk of the car
- Installed on a seat in your car, either in the front or back (I recommend securing it with a seatbelt).
- At the feet of the passenger seats, if your car allows it
Say to yourself that you will only use the Yoyo bassinet until 6 months, after which your child will outgrow it. Therefore, you will need to buy an approved and safe car seat.
Not getting one from the start only delays the inevitable and causes unnecessary stress.
As a bonus, here’s how to optimize space in the car trunk with the bassinet. Since the Yoyo chassis is not very thick, you can easily stack the chassis and the bassinet for optimal space saving.
That’s what I usually do.
But for the photo above on the page, I decided to separate the two to make it more visible.
Here’s the actual installation in the car trunk.
